Testing non-working FM transmitter

Tomasz Rybak
Hello,
I have n900 with FW 3.2010-02-8 with Polish settings.
My phone has been in service. After it returned I flashed
it with PR1.1.1 and after few days noticed that FM transmitter
is not working. When I try to enable it in Settings,
all I can see on the screen in window with message
"FM transmitter disabled" (Polish: Nadajnik UKF FM wyłączony)
and OK button - no way to change frequency or enable it.
I have changed regional settings to German, and got
basically the same message.
FM receiver seems to work - at least when I installed
"FM Radio" I was able to receive station.

How can I check if transmitter is not working because
service broken something or it is some disabled setting?
If so - how to enable it?
Nokia Poland (to which I wrote about problems with service
of my device) is silent about this problem.

Best regards.

Hmm, using FM transmitter should be legal in Poland
http://europe.nokia.com/support/fm-transmission

Have you tested if this works

It was working before I send n900 to repair (it had
problems with rebooting 32wd_to - Bug #6334).
Now it only reports 32wd_to after it was turned off because
of battery is empty.

I have installed it. When I try to change frequency, the same
window appears with message "FM transmitter disabled" and
OK button.
When I try to enable transmitter using widget, message
"Failed to change fmtx state" appears.

I have installed FM boots and it crashes after trying to run it.

So it looks like Polish Noka service has broken my device,
unless there is other way I can check/enable transmitter.

There's a app/script to enable FM transmitter made by qwerty12 for our Greek friends(can't remember the name), search here: talk.maemo.org

Thanks for the info.
Script is called fmtx-faker and is present in extras-devel.
Unfortunately it seems that it changes important system info
making impossible to make backups:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8148

For now I can live without FM transmitter - but I will be trying
to get replacement device. But I am afraid it can be hard - Nokia Poland
does not seem to employ knowledgeable people, or at least people
who can make a decision without forcing them to do so.

Some software variants have the FM transmitter disabled. Maybe the
Polish guys have flashed this kind of image by accident. Flashing a
"normal" image could fix that problem, if you can get hold of one
somewhere.

I would assume this. But I have flashed new image myself.
Phone came back with old firmware PR1.1, so I have downloaded
and flashed PR1.1.1.
Your assumption about disabling in firmware could be correct
(as fmtx-faker allows for Greeks to use FM transmitter), but
from what I have read in posts by qwerty12 such a configuration
is stored in different part of device, that can not be
accessed by "mere mortals" - service however should be
able to access this part of memory. For now I am trying
to get Nokia Care to solve this case - but thanks for ideas.

BTW - if someone knows how to change such low-level settings
(and not risking bricking device) feel free sending some tips.
